Well done, good and faithful servant — Matthew 25:21
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
— Romans 8:38-39

A Life of Faith and Service
Walking with Christ for over seven decades
Robert James Mitchell was born on August 10, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, and was baptized into the Christian faith at First Baptist Church just weeks later. From his earliest days, Robert's life was anchored in his relationship with God and his love for the church community.
After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Robert worked as a civil engineer while dedicating much of his free time to church ministry. He served as a deacon for 15 years, led the men's Bible study group for two decades, and was a founding member of the church's outreach mission to homeless shelters in downtown Nashville.
Robert married his beloved wife Margaret in 1978 at the same church where he was baptized. Together they raised four children in the faith, instilling in them the values of compassion, service, and unwavering trust in God's plan. Sunday mornings at the Mitchell household always began with family prayer and ended with Margaret's famous pot roast.
In his later years, Robert found great joy in mentoring young men in the church, sharing the wisdom he had gathered over a lifetime of walking with Christ. His favorite scripture, Romans 8:28, guided him through every season of life: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him."
Robert's faith never wavered, even in his final days. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, with hymns playing softly and scripture being read aloud. His life was a testament to the transformative power of faith, love, and service.
